Global War on Terrorism: 635th Regional Support Group

A newly-formed unit, the 635th Regional Support Group, headquartered in Hutchinson, departed on Apr. 29, 2006 for Operation Iraqi Freedom, following a departure ceremony at the Hutchinson Sports Arena, Hutchinson.

The unit, formerly the 35th Division Artillery headquarters, was commanded by COL Robert Staiert, Topeka. In Kuwait, they were assigned to the 377th Theater Support Command and soon took over logistics operations support duties that provided maintenance, transportation, supplies, equipment, and manpower in the Iraqi theater. Operating the Distribution Management Center (DMC) they ensured that supplies got to units conducting missions in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and parts of Africa.

They returned home on June 29, 2008 after the year-long deployment to Kuwait. They were honored during a welcome home ceremony at the Hutchinson Armory.
